Essential Question: How does the structure of matter on the atomic, molecular, microscopic and macroscopic levels determine its physical, chemical, and biological properties with emphasis on their use in building construction? How do the design of a building, selection of building materials, construction process and use of a building affect the overall sustainability of a building project and the user experience in the building?
Project reflection:I learned where VOCs can be found and what they are, they are chemical compounds that are found in a lot of common items in my home and school environment. I learned about the health effects and reactions VOCs can have on humans. Lastly I learned how to limit the exposure of VOCs In our new building, so that we can have a more sustainable school.
When beginning this project I didnt think indoor air quality was very important. But after learning about the health effects the indoor air pollutants can have on people. Things like allergic skin reactions, conjunctival irritation, and even cancer can be caused by products in your home or workspace. Overall this project showed me to pay more attention to airflow and what products I keep in my room.
I enjoyed getting to do a project that is applicable to real life. Even Though I learned a lot with this project. I found it hard for me to get the motivation to do my best on this project. I feel like I kind of rushed the final project and I could have come up with a better project had we spent a little more time on the project and made them more refined. When doing this project again I would suggest adding more structure to the project. I think It was made clear to us what our final project needed to entail. But there were no steps or assignments to help us build a good final project. I also think it would have been interesting if we could have done some sort of action project with this.
